This collective monograph is devoted to the history of dogs that lived in Lithuania in the 13th-18th centuries. By studying their bones, traces found in bricks and other clay products, and using historical data, scientists tell us what the dogs bred in Lithuania looked like, what they believed, what diseases they suffered from, what they were used for. You can learn about the differences between medieval and modern dogs. Scientists provide an answer, why from XVIII century we no longer find the largest dogs that were abundant in the Middle Ages, how different were the health, nutrition and living conditions of the four-legged animals that lived in castles and cities. The detailed results of the research allow us to learn about the traditions of dog burial, how hunting was conducted, what hunting dogs looked like and what their characteristics were, why they were not allowed to be sold. Those interested in the history of local dog breeds may be surprised to learn that a century ago, in addition to Lithuanian hounds, other types of local dogs were bred here.
