Cunovo is the southernmost part of Bratislava. It lies in the border triangle between Austria, Hungary and Slovakia. Based on the Paris Peace Conference, the villages of Rusovce, Jarovce and Cunovo were annexed to Czechoslovakia in 1947. The first written mention dates from 1232, from the reign of King Andrew II. The cholera epidemic in 1497 and the subsequent Turkish expansion depopulated the Danube region. At the beginning of the 16th century, Croats fled from the Turks moved here. They found a second homeland here and they keep their cultural traditions and speech to this day. In 1972, Cunovo was connected as a city district to the capital Bratislava.
