The beginnings of Slovak onomastics are connected with the establishment of the Slovak Onomastic Commission V. Blanar on 8 December 1964, who also became its first chairman (Blanar). The establishment of this Commission and the beginning of its organizational activities are closely connected with the planned onomastic research in Slovakia (collection of onymic material, establishment of card catalogues, processing of specific onomastic topics in the form of monographic works). Onomastic scientific research in Slovakia is not stagnating, but on the contrary, it is awakening and motivating to new heuristic onomastic research not only linguists, but also students, who often choose onomastic issues as the topic of their diploma, rigorous or dissertation theses.
