The offered book was written by Vasyl Dovgovych (1783-1849), outstanding Ukrainian author, philosopher, ethnographer, religious and public figure, one of the founders of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It was published in 1824 and is considered to be the first attempt in Ukrainian science to analyze the subject and aims of ethnography. The present publication reflects V.Dovgovych's viewpoints on the problem. The study is presented in two languages - Ukrainian and Hungarian.
