The book is devoted to the history of Belarussian cities from the moment of their foundation till the beginning of the XXth century, the people born in these cities and called Jewish pales. Many of the people born in Vitsebsk, Homel, Pinsk, Polatsk and Slutsk due to their intellect curiosity and purposefulness managed to find their place in life, contributed greatly to the development of Jewish and Russian cultures and had a great influence on the development and formation of some of the states and first of all Israel. Brief biographies of the prominent Jewish people are provided in the appendix of the book.
