The results of the field research and their analysis categorically destroy the notions of a homogeneous Roma community even within one neighborhood and one generation of youth. And at the same time, they reveal similarities and differences between the two groups of youth (Roma and Bulgarians), seeking their explanation and the possibilities for rapprochement – getting to know each other, interaction – between them. I hope that Radostina Antonova’s book will reach not only students of sociology, political science, cultural studies, ethnology; to social scientists interested in the problems of Bulgarian society and the coexistence/interactions of Roma and Bulgarians, but also to those involved in educational and social policies at both the local and national levels. It contains many details that are worth careful discussion and which should provoke further research. The aim of the scientific work is to explain how belonging to a marginalized ethnic minority group or to a dominant majority group influences the way in which young people in adolescence and emerging adulthood form their values, group identities and attitudes towards activity and taking responsibility or towards fatalism and experiencing stigmatization, how they build their individual life projects and perspectives.
