The book is a fictionalized biography of one of the oldest Moscow lanes. Much attention is given to life and activities of outstanding inhabitants of this part of the capital. Among the inhabitants were the greatest Russian historians, well-known Soviet poet, dramatic artists and opera singers, prominent director and composer of genius, and famous ballet artists. Once this lane was the place where prospecting of the first Russian book-printing were made and fundamentals of modern chemistry were worked out. Here the destiny of Jacob Jugashvili was decided and at last the lane appeared to be somehow connected with the death of Tsar’s family.
