In the book Ive Zanic analyzes the way in which the folklore matrix of the Balkan region was used in the political discourse of the 80's and 90's in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Taking the corps of folklore, heroic epics, primarily the cultural tradition of hajdustva, as a source, Zanic analyzes the strategies and mechanisms for constructing a new national imagination in the complex political and social circumstances of the mid-1980s and early 1990s in the territory of Yugoslavia.
