In June 1950, the Soviet Union began collecting signatures under the famous Stockholm appeal “On the prohibition of the use of atomic weapons”. It was signed by more than 115 million citizens of the USSR. Moreover, many people on their own initiative began to send money donations to the Soviet Committee for the protection of peace, which was established in August 1949, marked: “for the protection of peace”, “for the benefit of peace”, “To avoid war”, “for world peace”, etc.to account for such revenues and control over their use on April 27, 1961, the Soviet peace Fund was established. The founders of the Soviet peace Fund were the Committee of Soviet women, the Soviet Committee of war veterans, the Soviet peace Committee and the Soviet Committee of solidarity with Asia and Africa. Over the years, the peace Foundation has become one of the most massive and influential public organizations, which has gained great authority both domestically and abroad through its peacekeeping and charitable actions. The idea of preserving peace and fighting against aggressive forces was fully supported by the population not only morally but also financially. By the decision of the founders of the Fund, the funds received in the form of voluntary donations, as well as those earned during the world Watches at factories, construction sites, agricultural workers and other revenues, were allocated for the implementation of programs to strengthen peace and international security, assistance to peoples struggling for their freedom and independence.
