A people with a thousand-year history like the Bulgarians, with so many ethnic branches all over two continents, a people that regardless of the circumstances honors and preserves its name and traditions, is practically indestructible. Five hundred years of Ottoman rule did not erase the Bulgarian national name from the people's memory. I recall his unforgettable address: "Oh, you foolish and fools!..." And I think that if he had written his "History" today, he would have continued: "Be sure - a day is coming when you yourself will be ashamed of your shame for calling yourself a Bulgarian.
