A number of issues relating to history and ethnology of highlanders populating Aragvi and Terek Gorges on the territory of modern eastern Georgia are studied in the monograph. The first chapter is devoted to the problem of some geographical names origin, names of rivers in particular, among which special attention is paid to the etymology of the word "Aragvi" and the reasons for its wide spreading in Georgia. The author presents a new approach to the problem of participation of a small group of highlanders (widely-known as 300 Aragvians) in a so called "Kratsaniss battle" of 1795 and etymology and area of spreading of the term "karakalkan" as Muslim chronologists named peoples populating Aragvi and Terek Gorges.
