Albert Korotkovsky (1929 - 1990) was Honored Architect of the RSFSR, Professor, Candidate of Architecture, Rector of the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute (1982-1987), founder of the Ural School of Architectural Semiotics. He was the creator of the Historical Square. He graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute (UPI) with a degree in Architecture in 1953. He worked at the UralpromstroyNIIproekt Institute (1953–1956), at the TsNIPS Academy of Construction and Architecture (1957–1960). After defending his Ph.D. thesis in 1963, he worked at the Department of Architecture at UPI. From 1964 to 1966 he taught at the Rangoon Institute of Technology in Burma, and also took part in the design of architectural objects. Since 1967 he worked as an associate professor, dean, head of the department of fundamentals of architectural design (AP) at the Ural branch of the Moscow Architectural Institute. From 1972 to 1983 he worked as a Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, was a Head of the Department of Design and Architecture at the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute (SAI). From 1982 to 1987 he was a Rector of the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute.
