The main purpose of this book is to show the April Uprising from 1876 (the biggest uprising of the Bulgarians against the Ottoman slavery) neither in its triumphs and enthusiasm, nor in its falls and the defeats as being this done frequently in the past but to show the personal, the psychic experience of the freedom – the freedom as an ability to take the responsibility for the freedom of others and the most important as an ability to find the key to the psychic status of your own people. And this is the core of the purpose – the slavish, which overcoming is the freedom itself. And if from 1876 until now there are huge literature available – scholar and popular historical one, memoires, archival-documentary one, fictional and poetic one, partially sociological one, then about the uprising as a psychic problem through the personalities and through the collective body there is almost nothing except some old cliches. On the traditional annual awards of the Union of the Bulgarian Writers for 2016 the author Simeon Ianev was awarded in the “Journalism” section for his book “1876”.
