The Latgallians were one of the ethnic groups of the Balts that actively took part in the formation of the Latvian nation. It is not possible to understand many of prehistorical problems of the Balts and their neighbours without having a comprehensive idea of the above mentioned tribe alliance, which later turned into a nation. The material analysed in this work made possible not only to observe and codify the types of the monuments, their distribution, locality, appearance, burial traditions, grave goods, and their chronology, but also made it possible to solve problems concerning the ethnic, social, and political history of the Latgallians.
