Hala was a medic in the Golski Battalion and Zoska Tadeusz Zawadzki's great love. We learn about her carefree childhood in the wealthy family of a chemical factory owner in pre-war Warsaw, her beautiful time at Queen Jadwiga High School, the friendships she formed, the fun she shared, the trips she took, and the scouting. And suddenly, these young people, just after or just before their final exams, faced the horrors of war. Without hesitation, they took up arms; many of them perished. Hala reflects on her tragic war experiences. She also recalls the post-war years, her husband Felicjan, two daughters, and six grandchildren. She passed away in 2015. The book is enriched by previously unpublished photographs and documents from a private collection. Of particular value are the descriptions of historical events from World War II and the figures associated with them, images of pre-war Warsaw, and the reflective, humorous observations of a ninety-year-old woman.
