In 2002-2006 Ales Karlyukevich worked as a journalist for the newspaper “Soviet Belarus”. In 2003, after the death of Vasil Bykov, it was Karlyukevich who wrote an article in the publication of the Presidential Administration. There were many controversial moments there. They say that some classics of Belarusian literature after this refused to communicate with Karlyukevich.
In 2006, he headed the Literature and Art holding. This happened after many writers “left” the publication, whose position did not coincide with the position of the authorities. After the split in the Writers' Union, Karlyukevich supported the Chergintsov organization.
The work of Alexander Karlyukevich has always been Belarusian-language. The first book was published in 1994 and was called “Return...to Belarus”. He wrote a lot of local history works about the Pukhovichi region. Recently, Karlyukevich has also been writing fiction.
