The collection consists of folk songs and original songs written especially for Mikhail Epelbaum (1894–1957), the world famous performer of Yiddish songs. Except notes, it included lyrics in Yiddish, their Latin transliteration, the translation into Russian, detailed comments. The collection opens with an extensive biographic sketch. The original illustrations accompany all the songs. The gramophone discs that were released in the 1920s and 1930s by US and Soviet labels have saved only twenty five Yiddish songs from Mikhail Epelbaum’s vast repertoire. All of them are brought together on the CD attached to the book.
