Last year, the Belarusian Union of Composers suffered a heavy loss. On November 12, People's Artist of the USSR and Belarus, honorary citizen of the city of Minsk Igor Luchenok, who headed the Belarusian composers' organization for no less than 38 years, passed away. Shortly before this, his deputy, chairman of the board of the Belarusian Union of Composers, Eduard Zaritsky, died from a serious and long-term illness.
The 41-year-old composer Viktor Kisten was urgently elected to the post previously held by Zaritsky. Among other things, he coordinates creative exchanges with the European Broadcasting Union, collaborates with the Letopis film studio, and is engaged in the restoration of scores of old Belarusian composers. His original programs on Belarusian Radio make a huge contribution to the popularization of national classical music.
