This is the first separate edition of the artistic heritage of Serhiy Kanyuk (1880-1945), a native of the village of Khlivyshche in Bukovyna, a well-known public and political figure, educator and publicist who lived and worked in sub-Soviet Ukraine since 1922 and was unjustifiably repressed in the 1930s. Bolshevik authorities, exiled to Siberia, where his life ended in 1945. The unjustly forgotten and not fully appreciated name of the talented Bukovinian writer is now, in the year of the 75th anniversary of his death and the 140th anniversary of his birth, returning to Ukrainian literature in the form of an organized collection of prose works. The collection of S. Kanyuk's works is built on a chronological principle and contains works of art dating from 1900-1920. The compiler, author of the preface and notes is Olga Melenchuk, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Methodist of the Bukovynian Center of Culture and Arts. In the introductory word "The most important thing remains - the works of Sergei Kanyuk" the researcher traced the milestones of life and work of S. Kanyuk, the son of the famous folk poetess Zinovy Kanyuk, who, moreover, was the grandmother of the artist Kornil Dzerzhik. It is emphasized that this fact was established by the famous Bukovynian ethnographer, collector of antiquities, art critic and master of wickerwork Ivan Snigur, who was lucky to be acquainted with the artist and make records of their conversations. The foreword analyzes in detail the works of S. Kanyuk, emphasizing their problem-thematic and genre-style features.
