Saulius Dominikovich Sidaras was born in the village of Solomishkis, Kaunas district, Lithuanian SSR. He came to Siberia during the period of mass repressions in 1948 and grew up on the banks of the Yenisei in the village of Yartsevo. Since 1960, he worked as a geological technician on exploration expeditions of the Krasnoyarsk Geological Department. He was interested in stone processing and photography, and wrote essays. His stories contain detailed and accurate descriptions of the life and field life of geologists, descriptions of the nature of the region, the life of the local population, about gold miners of the last century, about alcohol carriers and shamans.
