The events of the book cover the period from 1918, when the state first tried to monopolize film production, to the end of the 1980s, to the appearance of the first independent film studios, when the long-standing state monopoly on film production was broken.
The main characters of the historical essays are Ukrainian screen masters of the seven decades of the 20th century, as well as famous writers, artists, singers, theater actors, scientists, pop idols, football "stars", and politicians. The stories presented on these pages fundamentally do not touch on the history of the creation of very famous tapes, about which a lot has been written, and some of them have recently even been the subject of large-scale exhibition projects. Emphasis is deliberately placed on unjustly forgotten films, events and figures.
