The monograph is based on the studies of Russian and Belarusian archaeologists concerning the western territories of Rus’ in the IXth-XIIIth centuries. This material highlights the existence of the important economic region in the IXth - the beginning of the XIth centuries in the Dnepr-Dvina interfluves area. As an important constituent of the route from Varangians to Greeks, these territories connected Scandinavia and Europe with the Black Sea.
