In October 1694, in the North-East woods not far from Lake Onega, in the Upper Vyg, the Old Belief cloister Vygov Coastal Desert was founded... The substantial part of the offered book includes reports of international scientific conference, devoted to the 300th anniversary of the foundation of great Old Belief center in North Russia - Vygov Coastal Desert. The conference took place in September 13-17, 1994, in Petrozavodsk. There were Old Belief researchers from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Novosibirsk, as well as from the USA, Great Britain, Finland, Poland among the authors of this collection.
