The user's need for information that is created in the wider heritage environment and for data that can be obtained without consulting the copy in hand, or visiting a specific museum or gallery where the described work is located, is growing. The development of information technologies enabled new ways of museum business and a new paradigm of access to the necessary information. The intention is to make the publication of this work easier for everyone, primarily curators, who own visual material in their holdings, its formal and content processing, so that it can be remotely accessible to all users. All the examples used are works by authors significant for Croatian culture, so it is also a kind of overview of Croatian visual art. The National Rulebook for Description and Access to Materials in Libraries, Archives and Museums provided a framework for creating manuals for certain types of materials, including visual materials. This description must correspond to each individual type of visual work and at the same time include all the formal and content characteristics of these works. The description must correspond to the different needs of the users, regardless of the information system used by the individual heritage institution. This work therefore includes all those works with a primary visual representation, namely drawings, graphics, paintings, posters, ex libris, comics, cartoons and feature films, postcards, graphic folders, sculptures, reliefs, medals, as well as visual material that is of special importance for Croatian culture, and is found in certain old and rare books.
