The author of the book is a professor of the German-Slavic Department at the University of Waterloo (Canada), President of the Canadian Association of Slavists and one of the founders (1989) of the Canadian Aid Fund for Belarusian children affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The book devoted to Vasil Bykov is her fifth monograph. At the same time the monograph is the first serious study of creative work of this famous Belarusian writer published abroad.
