"Utopian decay: art in the Soviet era" is devoted to questions of utopia, crisis, entropy, catastrophe, metamorphosis, the degeneration of ideas in literature, fine arts, cinematography of Soviet and post-Soviet times.
The collection is based on the materials of an international scholarly conference held from August 31 to September 3, 2016. in Belgrade at the Faculty of Philology. The collection was attended by philosophers, literary critics, art historians and specialists in Russian culture of the twentieth century. from different countries: Germany, Israel, Italy, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Switzerland, Japan.
Proceeding from the concept of "life creation" characteristic of Russian Symbolists and inherited by avant-garde artists in the process of reconstructing the world with art, the authors of this publication focused on understanding the post-revolutionary era when attempts were made to implement utopian projects for the creation of a new man, society and art, which since the mid 1920s, due to socio-ideological changes, were subject to party sanctions.
