The authors of this book bring readers eight interesting stories of women living in the 19th and 20th centuries. These are well-known and lesser-known heroines. In the individual chapters, however, the reader gets to know not only the fate of selected women, their joys and worries, the benefits for society, but also the everyday life of the time in which they lived. He reads about the well-known Anicka Jurkovicova, the wife of the nationalist Jozef Miloslav Hurban, and finds out that she was not the first Slovak actress. Hurbanov's close collaborator Michal Miloslav Hodza had several daughters, the fate of one of them, Bozena Kutlikova, is captured in this book. The period of the national revival is complemented by the story of Johana Miloslava Lehotska, who met Ludovit Stur several times and belonged to the protagonists of the national movement in Liptov. The Ruzomberok family of Ruzomberok raised several nationalists, including Ruzena Anna Houdekova. As the wife of a merchant, she strongly supported the national movement in the late 19th century. Her sister Bohdana Skultetyova was married to the well-known writer Jozef Skultety and she also created literary works. The life stories of other women also convince us of the difficult practice of this profession. Therefore, the children's writer Sidonia Sakalova emigrated to the USA as a woman in her thirties, where she continued to devote herself to literary work and became artistically involved. Maria Razusova-Martakova got into a dispute with the human regime for her literary activity. During the Slovak National Uprising, the woman's tenderness had to be left aside by a teacher, later a spy, Maria Gulovichova, who joined the American paratroopers.
