The book presents the memoirs of the initiator and founder of the Buryat State University Stepan Vladimirovich Kalmykov, a famous Russian scientist, public and political figure, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education (RAO), deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Buryat ASSR / SSR (1990-1994), People's Khural of the Republic of Buryatia (1994-2018). The memoirs of S. V. Kalmykov reveal the historical significance of the creation of a classical university in Buryatia in terms of strengthening Russia's position in the educational, cultural and economic space of Eastern Eurasia, as well as the history of the formation of the political system of Buryatia in the late XX - early XXI centuries.
