There are few national histories in which one's own elite is so vehemently put out the door. The nobility in the "only correct" Ukrainian past - exclusively heroic Cossacks and disadvantaged peasants - has not found a place for a long time. And when her presence was noticed, they didn't let her in. So, having inherited it - castles, churches, books, academies, valuables - we practically do not know what and how those people lived every day.
