The author has elaborated many archival materials and based on them has determined the main principles and conditions for the organization of the USS Legion, its task in the First World War. The material of the monograph enables readers to follow the stages of the armed struggle that the USS during the second half of 1915 - early 1918 conducted against the Russian invaders in the Ternopil region. The book outlines the main directions of the cultural and educational activities of the SSC, their influence on the national consciousness of Ukrainian society. The author considers the situation of the inhabitants of Ternopil during the war years. The book contains several hundred images, and in the appendices the interested reader will find documents related to the stay of the USS in the region, as well as a list of natives of Ternopil who served in the USS during the First World War, their short biographies.
