The unique serial UKRAINE THROUGH THE CENTURIES is prepared by the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, the Ukrainian Institute of Archaeology and by the Institute of History. It consists of 15 volumes that recount Ukrainian history from ancient times till nowadays. The books are supplemented with pictures of architectural monuments, archaeological finds and photographs of people involved in the events covered in this serial. The 14th volume is devoted to the recent history of Ukraine, foundation and establishment of the independent state and describes the nineties of the XXth century. The global transformations which touched all the spheres of social life are analyzed as the sequence of political events. The consideration is based on the documents and on the established facts. The cardinal political changes, which took place on the territory of the state, are examined in the light of establishment of the sovereignty, declaration of the independence and development of new democratic tradition. Special stress is made on the relations between Parliament and the president, on the process of establishment of the Constitution, on development of the administrative system and civil society. Much attention is paid to the formation of national Armed Forces, peaceful foreign policy, strategic priorities of Ukraine. (Volumes 1-15 are available)
