The collection deals with analysis of some questions of the development of transport and modern communications in the new independent states since 1991. In this period the transport systems of the NIS saw great changes connected with creation of new transport and communication routes with foreign partners. Nevertheless the development of internal lines of communication and modern logistics lays behind. Realization of the new integration projects – the FTA in the CIS and the SEA in the framework of the EurAs EC demands better quality of transport service of rising economic interaction. The authors pay special attention to transit as the most acute question for all the NIS and to their transport cooperation. Modern communications in the region show considerably better dynamics than transport. However there is a very big difference in the absorbtion of modern information technologies in management, trade and service spheres between the NIS countries. The study underlines the role of modern communications in the economic development and mutual cooperation of the NIS.
