The book is a study of the history of Berdyansk's relations with the United Kingdom and the biographies of British consuls in this southern Ukrainian port city. To some extent, the publication “opens up” the Northern Azov Region as a component of Southern Ukraine and directly to Berdyansk for English-speaking readers who could only find scattered references to them before. Holistic complexes of English-language sources make it possible to see the South of Ukraine year after year through the eyes of consuls, who in the long 19th century represented the interests of the British Empire.
