The contradictory processes of the formation and evolution of the Ukrainian elite in the western Ukrainian lands in the second half of the 19th - at the beginning of the 21st century are characterized. The essence, socio-historical genesis, stages and models of elite formation at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, the period of the Liberation Struggles, and the interwar period of the 20th century and modern Ukraine were retrospectively analyzed. The features of the processes of rotation of the political elite in Ukraine are studied, its ethnic and social features, generational potential are shown. Considerable attention is focused on the problem of interaction between the central and regional political and administrative elites of modern Ukraine, the impact of regionalization on state-building processes is characterized, and the role of party structures in the process of elite formation is clarified. Attention is focused on the important role of elites during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
