Ivan Ermolaev was born in 2000 in Moscow. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University. For three years, he lectured on contemporary Russian literature at the L. M. Bash School for Young Philologists. He has worked as an extracurricular educator at a secondary school, a librarian at a local public library, and a production editor at a publishing house. He is the author of essays on the works of Russian poets and writers at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.
"Art is almost always a gesture of gratitude to the world — for letting us live in it and gaze at it — a rapt attempt to preserve its most cherished details. Like a gilded portrait of the Emperor, presented as a gift to the Emperor himself. I have no relation to such art.
One of my favorite poems begins with the words: 'If the light of the sun, the moon, and the stars is not enough for you,' and later speaks of 'a boundless world where everything abounds, yet something is always missing.'
The light of the stars and what it illuminates is never enough for me. All my poems were written about the ruby Bethlehem 'No,' about the burning of His dark ray that pierces the world."
