In the monograph the Russian perception of the late novels by Charles Dickens “Great Expectations”, “Our Mutual Friend”, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” has been researched for the first time in the aspect of mutual interaction of English and Russian culture. The principles and the character of the early translations of these novels are studied; the stylistic dominants of the first translators are defined. The leading trends of Dickens's novels evaluation among Russian critics and journalists (1850-1890) are shown. The moral, philosophical and esthetic sense of Dostoyevsky's comprehension of the late Dickens's novels is revealed. The role of Dickens is investigated in the development of Tolstoy's literary world, which provides a way of developing an integrate picture of Dickens's perception in Russia of 1860-1890.
