A biography of Ivan Vazov (1850-1921), the patriarch of Bulgarian literature, marking his 170th birth anniversary. Vazov's life was humble in terms of outward events but rich in inward focus, which lent loftiness and magnitude to Bulgarian literature. He shrouded his private life in silence and let his writings speak for him. He actually buried his life in the vastest and most amazing space in Bulgarian literature. The author Svetlozar Igov (born 1945) is a literary historian and critic, a poet, novelist and translator. Between 1978 and 2010 he worked at the Institute of Literature with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 2012 he won the Vazov Award.
