The monograph “The Merchants of Vilnius in the 19th Century: Status, Activity, Opportunities” explores the complex and lacking historiographic work of the 19th century. The theme of Lithuanian history is the socio-economic history of business, more specifically the socio-economic history of Vilnius merchants. The ethno-confessional and social dynamics of the merchant stratum and its changes in the 19th century are revealed. In Vilnius, merchants 'business direction choices are made, the policy of the Russian Empire towards merchants is analyzed, the merchants' social posture, changes in business and lifestyle are discussed.
