The [book] aims to reflect the basic issues associated with the theory of the audience, namely the perspective of the functions of the media, selected communication models and especially from the perspective of the dichotomy of the active and passive audience. Since the chosen issue is captured only marginally in the Slovak mediological space, the analysis of existing foreign research on theoretical texts is complemented by the results of the author's research probes into the media habits of selected groups of media audiences, which are mostly quantitative in nature.
