One of the contemporaries of the revolutionary era was the outstanding Russian scientist Vladimir Timofeevich Shevyakov. Recognized world authority in the field of zoology and protistology, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy from Heidelberg University, Doctor of Law from the University of Aberdeen, Emeritus Professor of Petrograd University, Fellow Minister of Education of Russia, founder of several large higher educational institutions, Professor of Irkutsk State University (ISU) and the Irkutsk Medical Institute, he was among the first professors at ISU and for the last ten years of his life he lived and worked in Irkutsk. He was the scientist who was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor of the Irkutsk Province.
