Yuri Kabankov's monograph "The Last Byzantine of Russian subscribed literature. Venerable Maxim the Greek" touches upon the problems of correlation of Christian cultures in XV-XVI centuries. It examines the phenomenon of spiritual influence of Byzantium on the Russian consciousness on the whole. The author stresses that the fall of Constantinople in 1453 made an invaluable positive influence on the culture of West. This research covers the problem of interpretation and translation of sacred papers in connection with Maxim the Greek's activity in Russia. Along with this problem it studies the matter of the existence of the library of Basil the Third, and besides, it stresses the role of Maxim the Greek as the first Russian philologist. The author of this work notes that the process of secularization and the crisis of religious consciousness, which Maxim the Greek strove to reveal, originated in the rational heresy of the epoch. Maxim the Greek made a unique contribution not only on Russian but also on European culture as a whole. The author thinks that "the new vision of the world culture" does not mean the expansion of the limits but awareness of them.
