This book is an attempt to answer the question why Stalin, not anyone else, became Lenin's successor. The author came to a conclusion that only such strong and hard-edged person like Stalin could preserve the communist system created by Lenin. According to the author's opinion, based on careful study of archives, the communist regime itself implied terror, repressions, genocide, etc. That was not Stalin's initiative, but the demand of the system created by Lenin. The author presents his own point of view on the relations between Stalin and Lenin as well as on Stalin's role in the Russian history.
