The book included two short stories written twenty years apart ("Khatyn history" in 1971 and "Silent" in 1992-1993), connected by a common motif - war through the eyes of a teenager. Ales Adamovych's story "Silent" (1992) tells the story of the love between the German soldier Franz and the Belarusian girl Polina during the occupation and the subsequent period. A. Adamovich tries to recreate one of the episodes of Belarusian history in order to clearly show the destructive essence of misanthropic ideology that cripples human destiny and deforms the soul. The young heroes of the novel Franz and Pauline face extraordinary circumstances, guided in their behavior by simple rules of ordinary morality and the laws of nature. They were able to save their love, overcome obstacles and emerge from trials as moral victors over evil.
