The book by the Hungarian historian and writer D. Dalosh is a solid documentary work and at the same time a very lively narrative that tells about the fate of the Russian Germans for 230 years - from the middle of the 18th to the end of the 20th century. In his study, the author describes in detail the living conditions of the first settlers and their descendants, the pogroms during the First World War, the existence of the Volga German Autonomous Republic formed after the October Revolution, deportation at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and forced labor, attempts to restore German autonomy during the rehabilitation period with the ensuing the mass return of Germans to Germany during the years of perestroika. The book is published for the first time in Russian and is addressed to a wide range of readers.
