Vera Jourova (1964) is a Czech politician, businesswoman and lawyer, European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Protection and Gender Equality in the Juncker Commission from 2014 to 2019 and Commissioner and Vice-President for Values and Transparency in the first von der Leyen Commission from 2019 to 2024. Since January 2025, she has been Vice-Rector of Charles University for Human Resources Development and New Technologies. A frank and open confession of a strong and courageous woman about her journey from the very bottom to the highest peak. When she was led in handcuffs and ended up behind bars, no one would have bet that in a few years she would be sitting in the government and then become one of the most powerful women in Europe. Time magazine ranked her among the 100 most influential people in the world. No Czech has ever managed to do that.
