Nowadays we know that Constantine the Great, the first Roman emperor to accept Christianity, was canonized as a saint and is considered founder of the Church. Constantine's life story is amazing and instructive but his canonical image has been influenced by the Christian doctrine and much of his real personality is lost to us. What the sources say about him is not always understood correctly, and also, many authors have misrepresented the facts.
