The publication deals with a wide range of art criticism problems related to the study of the Belarusian non-fiction screen heritage of the Great Patriotic War period. Particular attention is paid to the practical application of the methodology of historical and art history attribution of newsreel material, which makes it possible to return the status of a full-fledged screen document to the “undocumented” film chronicle. New information about front-line film and chronicle material, newsreels and documentaries and releases of the film magazine "Savetskaya Belarus" for 1942–1945 is given. The results of the work of the Belarusian newsreel studio, which was temporarily located in Moscow during the years of the occupation of Belarus, have been studied, a complex of creative and organizational measures of 1942–1945 aimed at restoring the Belarusian newsreel-documentary film process has been analyzed.
