For Primo Levy, the testimony acquires, thanks to the strict style and the most objective language possible, the meaning and the form of a testimony before a court-court of history, of the contemporaries, of the next generations: “We, the survivors, are witnesses, and every witness is obliged, by law, to give complete and plausible answers ". In this way the testimony acquires all its meaning: the survivor must be faithful, down to the smallest detail, in his role he must be a witness in the full sense of the word ("a person capable of testifying about an event in in the name of immediate knowledge ”), he should speak only about what he has seen and experienced, without any concessions in relation to what he has heard said or learned from his companions. Direct witness. Levi's speech is dominated by the exact repetition of topics or references to make this "untold" fact understandable to someone who has not experienced it. To this must be added an excellent use of language, without any recourse to rhetoric or inaccuracy. The author of "If this is the man" offers us an exemplary lesson in memory and clarity.
The discussion took place in 1983 with two historians-researchers from Piedmont, Anna Bravo and Federico Serelia, as part of a wider record of testimonies about the camps.
