This book studies one of the most vital and resistant phenomena in the Bulgarian traditional culture – the doll. The doll’s characteristic is made upon wide range of materials which presents it through its name, type, function and materials it has been made from. Presented are also the idol-dolls made from natural materials (leaves, straw, cereals, flowers etc.) as well as the most ancient doll images. The book bolds the dolls’ typography according its anthropomorphic, zoomorphic and natural doll-like activities. The study puts an accent on the typography of doll according its function as ritual (sacral), artistic (satiric), for play and every day one. An important point in the book is the presentation of the doll in the everyday life in the past of the Bulgarians: in the home puppet theatre, as a scarecrow, in the family wedding and birth rituals etc.
During the years the dolls lost their mystical powers and their functions are reduced but they have a big contribution in preserving of the historical memory of the Bulgarians.
