The Chronicle of George of Srijem is a unique testimony of a tragic time. The author, who came from the Hungarian-Serbian borderland called Srijem, was the chaplain of King Louis II and after his death also of King John of Zapolsky. In his work, he captured many events of the turbulent period in which he lived. Through his narration and lively language, he conveyed to us many now forgotten facts and their actors, which ultimately resulted in the destruction of the once powerful kingdom.
